This journal will be a repository and daily check-in of a number of variable I will be tracking on my journey to a happier, healthier "middle".

  • Guiding Principles

    There are a number of Guiding Principles that will help guide me as I journey to the “middle”:

    1. Happy Medium - A balanced position between two opposite extremes

    I first learned about the concept of “happy medium”  through my mother’s explanation of the term during my first reading of A Wrinkle in Time. Due to my inclination to head towards extremes, keeping a close eye on my “happy medium” will help me maintain optimal well-being.

    2. Minimum Effective Dose (MED) - the smallest dose that will produce a desired outcome

    A fairly new term for me, but one that makes perfect sense for me in my life. There is no reason to do much of anything more than is necessary to achieve a desired goal. At best, all that extra effort will do nothing to improve my state, and at worst extra effort will actually produce adverse effects.

    3. Sādhanā - a spiritual discipline undertaken in the pursuit of a goal, whereby bondage becomes liberation

    A term that has been influential in my life since high school. Spending too much time in my head/spirit or in my body without understanding and focusing on how the connection of the two is often time wasted.
